Welcome to North College Hill!
North College Hill, is a statutory city of roughly 10,100 citizens in the southwestern section of the State of Ohio . Its southern border is shared with the City of Cincinnati . Mt. Healthy, Ohio is directly to its north. East and west of the City, respectively, are Springfield and Colerain Townships .
North College Hill History
North College Hill was part of a million acre tract purchased by John Cleves Symmes in 1787. All of the area was in Springfield Township. Early settlers came from Springfield, New Jersey.
In 1916, the population was about 500 and had incorporated. A year later, a volunteer fire department was organized. With the popularity of the automobile, the village grew, helped by the promise of affordable housing. Between 1920 and 1930, the population grew, going from about 1,100 to 4,100.
By 1941, when the population exceeded 5,000, the village incorporated as a city. The post-war years saw the population grow from close to 8,000 to 12,000 by 1960.
North College Hill Demographics
As of the census of 2000, North College Hill boasted a population of 10,082 people. Of this, 76% were white, 21% African-American with the remainder of the population represented by various other races. In 2000, 2,882 (68.77%) households were owner occupied while 1,309 (31.23%) households were occupied by renters. The median income in 2004 for a household in the city was $44,522 and the average household wealth was $146,632.
